The (En)Gendering Pacific Stories series’ mission is to create and host safe spaces for Pacific peoples to share their stories of navigating gender within diverse, complex, and fluid experiences.
“Weaving the Corporate Ladder” will feature Filifotu Vaai, Executive Director for Consumer Products & Sales at Hawaiian Telcom and Ilai Jikoiono, Designer and Owner of Zuber Fiji. Filifotu and Ilai will discuss their experiences navigating the corporate world often dominated by non-Pacific Islanders.

Ilai Jikoiono is the Creative Director and Co-Owner of Fiji’s leading luxury fashion label Zuber, the parent company of which is a manufacturer, wholesaler, and retailer of fashion products.
Ilai has overseen the growth of the business to include two physical retail stores (the flagship store in Suva and the resort boutique at the Sofitel, Denarau, Nadi), as well as a dedicated Atelier that manufactures for Zuber, and external clients. The label is also stocked by luxury department store, Prouds, and at the boutique of the highly exclusive Kokomo Private Island Resort.
Filifotu Vaai, was born and raised in Samoa, and currently lives in Ewa Beach, Hawaii with her 2 daughters, where she works as the Executive Director for Consumer Product & Sales for Hawaiian Telcom.
Prior to joining Hawaiian Telcom, Filifotu was the Country Manager for Bluesky Communications in American Samoa and worked as the Marketing Director for Bluesky Group which operated in American Samoa, Samoa and the Cook Islands (now Vodafone). Filifotu’s career over the past 17 years has been in the telco/ technology field working in various roles for providers of communications services in the Pacific region, and now the US. She graduated with a Masters degree in Communications from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Victoria University in Wellington.
