Forging Thailand-US Climate and Energy Partnership
Recent erratic and extreme weather patterns in the Indo-Pacific underscore the priority that the United States and Thailand place on combatting climate change. Both countries have taken concrete steps to advance their respective commitments under the Paris Agreement. Thailand has placed the ‘Bio-Circular-Green’ Model at the forefront of its national economic agenda, while the United States is seeking opportunities to create new and better-paid green jobs. Given Thailand’s recent ambitious pledges to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and net-zero GHGs emissions by 2065, this session aims to identify areas where the United States and Thailand can complement each other to support the achievement of global climate goals at home, in the Mekong subregion, and within various multilateral frameworks such as ASEAN, APEC and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The New Opportunities for the United States-Kingdom of Thailand Alliance in the Indo-Pacific webinar series is a collaboration between the Royal Thai Embassy, Washington, D.C., the East-West Center in Washington, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, and the International Studies Center to further promote engagement and better understanding between the United States and Thailand’s respective government officials, parliamentarians, private sectors, academic and think tank analysts, and the general public.

This seminar will be on-the-record and recorded on both Zoom and YouTube.
