Panuelo (President @Federated States of Micronesia) His Excellency David W. Panuelo is the Ninth President of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). An alumnus of Easter Oregon University’s Class of 1987, Panuelo’s distinguished service to the Nation includes a former career in the Department of Foreign Affairs, with roles such as Deputy Chief of Mission in Fiji and Assistant Secretary for American & European Affairs, and in the private sector establishing non-profits such as Care Micronesia Foundation. Panuelo joined the FSM Congress on May 11th, 2011, and on May 11th, 2019, Panuelo was elected to serve as the Nation’s President. Ambassador Karena Lyons (Vice President @East-West Center) Ambassador Karena Lyons is Vice President and Director of Research at the East-West Center. She also heads the Pacific Islands Development Program (PIDP), a member of the Council of Regional Organisations of the Pacific (CROP) at the Pacific Forum. Before joining the Center in June 2019, Lyons was New Zealand’s Ambassador to the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau, as well as Consul General to the State of Hawai‘i and Envoy to the US Indo-Pacific Command.
